Movement of Computer = More online time?

Right ... gonna move the computer this evening.I have two options:

1: Rach has informed me that Cate will be sleeping in the same room as us for at least another 6 months, so as a result I am going to take over Catelyn's room!!
It has the advantage of being separated from our bedroom by a hallway and a bathroom, therefore banging on keyboard should have no effect on the little uns sleep. Downside is that it is too close to the room to enable me to use a microphone so no Team Speak is possible.

2. I can move the computer downstairs into the second half of the living room. This will allow use of microphone for Team Speak, but will mean that I will have to have a wireless connection to the net (packet loss, worse pings??)

What do you boys think?

Whatever the outcome I will have to get myself a decent pair of headphones .... so just gonna look for those now. Again if you boys could recommend any just give me a shout!

All I can say is LMFAO....

Can you remember when I had to go to headphones then speak quietly in TS to avoid being told off.... oh the memories are flooding back now. I now have to use headphones permanently (only when at the computer) and speak quietly in TS.

The problem you have with option 1 m8 is that you will have to move it out eventually which is a bugger in itself. You can still use TS but either speak quietly or just listen and dont speak, hard for you NI guys I know.

Option 2 is better but then as you say you have a problem with connectivity. I would say wireless isnt good enough to accomodate your network gaming needs from the experiences I have had. How is the xbox connected downstairs? Is there anyway to get cable to add a connection in downstairs or you have your cable modem and router upstairs and pull in a long piece of ethernet outside and back in downstairs? You can get external ethernet thats a bit more hard wearing that only needs replacing every 5-10 years depending on exposure or route it outside in plastic piping, to be made to look like proper conduit.

The choice is yours.

For headphones I use Plantronics at the moment but bought a pair of seinhouser ones with my alienware pc. Feel a lot better quality and werent that much more expensive than the PT's. About £35 i think. The way to look at it is how much would you pay for speakers? May sound expensive for headphones but if you're going to be using them as much as the speakers I would say spend the money to get a good pair.

My two pence worth.

Vipes.

The main problem that I have is that the cable modem comes into the back of the house upstairs and to use it in the living room I'll have to track it downstairs and to the front of the house. Which involves lifting floorboards and drilling through the living room roof.

TBH I think I'm just gonna take the easy option and install it in Cate's room. Closer to the time when I have to move out I might seriously consider moving it downstairs.

As for the headphones I think that I might go for the Sennheiser option ... mainly because I might be able to pick up a pair today :) Although should really shop around I suppose :( Cause money is getting tighter as Rachel's income takes a dip !! (damn maternity leave!!)
